Today we are presenting another project from our list. It is in paleontology and is called
Echoes of the Pleistocene: Comparing the Megafaunal Ecosystems of Central Yakutia and Mexico.Yakutia vs Mexico: 9,000 kilometers apart and one great mystery. Why did the ancient representatives of megafauna disappear? It's time to make that clear. You will compare the facts about the life and disappearance of the megafauna in two very different regions of the world - the frigid Yakutia and the sunny Mexico. Over the course of the project, you will act like a real paleontologist and discover how climate and landscapes changed the appearance of animals, why the preservation conditions of fossils differ so dramatically between these regions and what exactly wiped the giants off the face of the Earth.
This journey will be guided by two wonderful tutors. Konstantin Protodiakonov is a paleontologist and Head of the Paleontology Department at the Museum of Nature and Man in Khanty-Mansiysk, winner of international scientific contests, and a veteran tutor of IRS 2017 and 2022. Andrea Dali Gomez Orozco is an architect and a stained-glass artist from Puebla, Mexico, with deep passions for history, geology, and paleontology.
